Trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, his work has spanned several genres, styles and formats, from contemporary thrillers and action to period dramas and teen\/young adult shows covering limited series, returning series and long serial dramas, most of them from the initial idea to delivery. He has directed across several countries, including some international co-productions, on award-winning prime time shows. Among them is LA\u00c7OS DE SANGUE, co-produced by Brazilian TV Globo, which won an International Emmy for Best Serial, and the miniseries A FAM\u00cdLIA VENTURA, nominated for Best Series by the Portuguese Film Academy.<\/p>\n

In the UK, where he returned to a few years ago, he has directed multiple blocks on some of its most iconic shows, including EASTENDERS and CASUALTY (BBC), HOLLYOAKS (Channel 4), CORONATION STREET and EMMERDALE (ITV). He has also directed several theatre productions in London.<\/p>\n

As a Director, Miguel is known for employing a cinematic and energetic style, while keeping a sensitive eye on performances, nurturing actors and enabling them to realise their full potential while feeling secure and grounded. He has a proven track record for elevating the projects he works on, adding a lot of production value and creating a stylish, expensive look.<\/p>\n

<\/div><\/div>As a Producer and Writer, he is particularly interested in stories which evolve around issues of identity and belonging, or are at the intersection of different cultures, as well as crime\/thriller, historical figures and coming of age\/young adult fiction. He also has a strong interest in literary adaptions to screen.<\/p>\n

He is currently developing a slate of projects for film and television, his own and in collaboration with other writers.<\/p>\n
